La Vie en Rose - "Ella"

DSC_0058

Ella is the newest addition to my barn, and I am very excited to see what her future holds. She is a 6 year old Thoroughbred, who never got anywhere near a racetrack. She was in training for about two months when she was three, but quickly proved that she has no inclination to go terribly fast, and was turned back out in a field. She has spent the majority of her life living the dream; eating, sleeping, and hanging out with her pals in a giant field below the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Although Ella is fairly uneducated, her natural athleticism and can-do attitude have carried her a long way already. She is far from your average chestnut mare, always nickering when she sees you and happiest when she gets rubs. I have never experienced her say "No" to anything, be it going down a steep incline into a river for the first time or popping over a strange looking log in the trail. She is always up for a new adventure, and is a pleasure to work with.

While I have not worked with Ella long enough to know her true potential, I know that she is an extraordinarily good mover, a brave and clever jumper, and a willing partner. I rode her full brother, Oliver, for two years and recently sold him to Sally Cousins as an upper level prospect, so I know that I love the family. Whether she will be another upper level competitor for me, or she will find her calling in another sport, I don't know yet, but I am excited to find out!

Ella and I will be going out for our first season of Foxhunting this fall. I have not foxhunted since the age of ten, and Ella has never been in such an exciting environment in her wildest dreams. Needless to say, we will be bringing the fashion of Three Day Eventing into the Foxhunting field, with our galloping boots and our quarter marks, and it will truly be a sight to see.
